Celebrating International Women’s Day:
A Time To Break The Bias and Champion Womanhood

March 3 2022

To celebrate the day of womanhood and togetherness, we asked our amazing Oak & Luna team about their visions and aspirations for the future and how they hope to break the bias in their personal world.

Welcoming March

We welcome the month of March by paying tribute to the extraordinary roles that women play in our lives. From our mothers, sisters, cousins, and friends to our neighbors, co-workers, and mentors, the multiple hats that women wear are usually overlooked and accepted as commonplace. But we want to highlight their contributions to history (or rather herstory) and contemporary society and support advocacies aimed at empowering our fellow females. This is our way to recognize their selflessness, courage, and strength. We honor the work they do and the woman they are.

Happy International Women’s Day

Every year, the call for a gender-equal world grows louder. This 2022, we are paying tribute to the annual campaign theme chosen by the International Women’s Day Organization, which is #BreakTheBias. We encourage you to imagine a world free of prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination. A society that champions diversity, inclusivity, and equitability, where our individual and unique differences are valued and celebrated. Transforming that vision into reality requires us to work together to break the bias in our communities, workplaces, and educational institutions. By actively calling out gender inequality and putting in the work to support women-centered initiatives, we are laying the groundwork for a better tomorrow.

Happy International Women’s Day! To celebrate womanhood and togetherness, we asked our amazing team about their visions and aspirations for the future and how they hope to break the bias in their personal lives.

Female Is A Key Position

“I'm proud to work in a women-led brand with a percentage of 54% females in leadership roles. Looking at the industry, the key positions such as C-Suites, I can confidently say that we’re ahead of the curve… I'm a dreamer, and I believe that small changes can make a world of difference.

I think breaking the bias starts on every woman’s personal note. For me, it’s doing things in my own way, like waking up every morning with a firm belief that my female colleagues and I are not less than our male counterparts — we are as capable, business-oriented, and driven as any other man in the room.”

Imposter Syndrome

“I think I don’t know a person (or any woman to be exact) who didn’t experience imposter syndrome in their lifetime. For the unacquainted, this psychological phenomenon leads individuals, primarily women and often well accomplished in their careers, to doubt their abilities and believe that they’re undeserving of their achievements.

We live in a society where there’s immense pressure to perform at our absolute best 100% of the time. And when mistakes are made or when awarded for their excellent performance, people afflicted with this debilitating belief are swallowed with toxic thoughts like “I’m not good enough,” “I’m a fraud,” or “I have no idea what I’m doing.” It doesn’t always have to be that way. By recalibrating our mindset, supporting each other, and accepting that we are enough, worthy, and whole, we can one day live in a world where we don’t undervalue ourselves.”

Diversity

“I’m happy that the commercial world is giving more and more space to diversity. The things that we have only dreamed about a few years ago are now becoming an industry benchmark. Seeing more colors, sizes, genders, and everything in between makes the world we live in a bit more real and a bit less fake.

Representation matters. By championing diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and the world at large, we give each other the space to shine and help one another pave the way for a brighter and more progressive future.”

Parenthood Equality

“Juggling two kids and a career is not easy — it's an (almost) everyday struggle. Living with COVID for the last two years made it even harder, but I’m so happy to be exactly where I am, in an environment that supports having both.

Gender traits and stereotypes that distort how people view women, especially mothers, still pervade today. I envision a future that is more understanding and less discriminating future, where parents equally share the efforts of raising a family while engaged in their respective careers. I know it won’t happen overnight, but I’m optimistic that the world is heading in that direction.”
