Mother’s Day
Jule Waibel: Our Mother’s Day Muse
To celebrate Mother’s Day, we chatted with a friend and fan of Oak & Luna, Jule Waibel, painter, designer, and mother. Jule is from Germany and currently based in New York, with creative roots stretching to Bali. Not only is she super stylish, she’s also incredibly talented, and we loved talking to her about her experience of motherhood.
"Creating oil on canvas is how I bring strong, sensual, independent women into focus."
"I've become more vulnerable, more present. But also stronger—to create the world I want my baby to grow up in. Because motherhood didn’t slow me down—it gave me more to say. My work tells stories of women like me, like us—wild, radiant, in motion. And somehow, in all the chaos… I still feel like me. This is how I create. This is how I mother."
How has becoming a mother changed the way you create?
"Motherhood has made me more focused. My time is limited now, so I’ve become more intentional and selective with my energy and what I choose to work on. It helps me create with more clarity."
What does a typical morning look like for you, and how do you find balance between Motherhood and creativity?
"Mornings are for my baby and me—we play, go for walks, hang out in the park, or run a few errands together. It’s our special time. Then, when the nanny comes in the afternoon, I shift into creative mode and fully dive into my work."
How do you stay connected to yourself through all your roles—artist, partner, mother?
"I love all those roles, but they can be a lot. I try to find little moments for myself—doing a workout or yoga in the park, grabbing a coffee alone. Even small rituals like that help me feel more like me again."
Jewelry often carries meaning—do you have a piece that feels symbolic or sentimental?
"Yes! I wear a necklace from Oak and Luna with the letter J and my zodiac sign —it’s a sweet reminder to stay true to myself. And I recently got a bracelet engraved with my boys' names—my husband and baby. It’s the first time I’ve worn something like that, and I love wearing it daily."
